  1. Chris McCandless and Jon Krakauer's journey's were different, but very much similar as well. First, they were different because Jon's journey focused on climbing on a mountain (page 133-144), while Chris's journey focused on surviving in the wild (woods). Jon came a lot more prepared for his journey than Chris, Jon had 4 weeks worth of food while Chris had 2 pounds of rice for 2 years, Jon had heavy winter camping gear, while Chris had the clothes on his back, and Jon had 6 cartons of supplies dropped from a plane when he had been dropped off (page 140). Another difference is Jon had made sure that someone knew where he was and that they would make sure he was okay, he had told a pilot where he would be and to fly over to check on him in three days after he had landed to see that he was fine (page 140).
Things that were the same, were both Chris and Jon sought out adventure and challenge. Jon had wanted to climb the mountain, of which had never been climbed (page134). Chris had gone into the wild without much preparation, I think to prove a point that he could survive off of strictly nature. Both Chris and Jon stayed in some sort of shelter for a matter of days, Chris stayed in an abandoned bus, Jon stayed in a tent (page 146). Both Chris and Jon were inspired by their fathers some what to journey, they both climbed mountains with their fathers while they were younger (page 147).

  2. Chris and Jon were very similar people, but they were also very different. Krakauer decided that he wanted to climb a mountain that nobody had ever been able to climb before, and Chris wanted to prove to his peer, and to himself, that someone could live purely off of the land and what nature provided for him. (pg. 133-144) Jon was very prepared and yet he still suffered from a shortage of food and the bitter cold. nature can be harsh and Jon knew that so he packed accordingly, while Chris steadily thought that packing enough supplies wasnt necessary. (pg. 140). Jon also thought of several scenarios involving the worst case scenarios, and then he thought of how he could get out of one of those jams, while Chris pretty much just went with the flow. (pg. 140) Chris and Jon, although different were very similar. both Chris and Jon survived with the use of a man made shelter, Jon a tent and Chris the magic bus. (pg. 146) Both Chris and Jon were always seeking new experiences and adventure. They both wanted nothing more than to spend time in the place that god created for men and women. The two of them even had similar fathers who would take them on hiking trips. (pg. 147)

  3. Chris and Jon are both simimlar and different from each other. The ways they are different is when Chris was persented with a problem he would hope that it would just work itself out but Jon thought of several ways to fix the problem and faced it more aggressively.(140) Even though both men went out into the wild Jon intention was to climb a mountain and Chris was trying to survive on basic needs.(133-144) The ways they are the same is by both men had fathers that liked nature and hiked outside with their sons.(147)Both Jon and Chris were able to survive by staying in a shelter outside for days (146) Living on the egde was the way of life for both theses men. They thrived on the adventure that they would strive to complete. (140)

  4. Jon and Chris had similarities but more differences, in their journey's. One of Jon, wanted to climb the mountain. He found climbing therapeutic and an incredible thrill. 133-143 He only wanted to climb the Devil's Thumb. Chris sought greater independence and a life of natural enlightenment. Jon was well prepared and had every intension of coming back. 140 Chris was ready to change his life. They do both however got a spiritual journey out of their physical one. Chris and Jon both had parental issues which added to their motivation but didn't determine their choices. 147

  5. Chris McCandless and Jon Krakeur both had a great feel toward nature. Chris went on an Alaskan Odyssey while Jon took a journey to the Devil’s Thumb. These journeys were very different, but also similar at the same time. Jon’s journey consisted of a great amount of mountain climbing, but the same can’t be said for Chris. Chris had to survive in the woods and learn to live out in solitude. Jon was definitely more prepared, for he brought a vast amount of supplies such as food enough for four weeks, a tent, and other things needed to camp out in the winter. Chris was barely prepared at all. He only had the clothes he was wearing when he first started his journey and only two pounds of rice. Jon let someone know where he was and exactly what he was doing, while Chris kept it a secret and told absolutely no one about his plans. Some similarities between the two journeys were that they both went out to explore nature and were seeking adventure, they both went out to find themselves, and they both had some sort of shelter while they were out on their journey.

  6. John and Chris had many similarities and differences. Jon decided that he wanted to climb a mountain that nobody had ever climbed before, and Chris wanted to prove to everyone that had no faith in him that someone could live off of just the land and what nature provided for him. (pg. 133-144) Jon was very prepared and he still suffered from a shortage of food and the bitter cold. Jon knew that nature could have contitions that were to the extreme and so he packed what he thought was enough, Chris thought that packing enough supplies wasnt necessary. (pg. 140). Jon also thought of several scenarios involving the worst case scenario. He made plans to get through these issues alive and healthy. Chris went into the wild with very little planning and just hoped for the best. (pg. 140) Both Chris and Jon survived with the use of a man made shelter, Jon a tent and Chris the magic bus. (pg. 146) Chris and Jon were always seeking new experiences and adventure. They both wanted to spend as much time as possible in the wilderness that God created for men and women. The two of them even had similar fathers who would take them on hiking trips. (pg. 147)
